Looza stands for first ray of the sun in Newari. Mysterious name, magic in the performance, no less than wonders, Robin N’ Looza no more exists. Robin N’ Looza reached eminence with their first album “Nepal” itself. There were those days when concerts without them used to be totally silent. They had as many critics too. Hence they didn’t have an easy start. Many argued their music was unbecoming for a Nepali band, mainly because of the wacky lyrics and incorrect pronunciations.
Admittedly, the band defied norms and structure of traditional Nepali music with weird, funny lyrics and erroneous pronunciations but it must also be remembered that they play a different genre of music… And that games have different rules! They muzzled their critics with their ever-increasing following. People went to their concerts safe in the knowledge of having a good time, in return Robin and Looza used every trick in the book to entertain their fans. Robin ‘n Looza ruled the roost in Nepali rock music for more than seven years. And like all good things, it came to an end. It was a bitter surprise for fans.
After modest set of three albums- Nepal, Aadhunik Aaganma and Bhulma Bhulyo they finally disbanded. After the breakup, Robin formed his new band Robin and The New Revolution whereas Looza faded in history. Robin and The New Revolution haven’t been able to keep the standard as when they were Robin N’ Looza. If you ask me, Robin’s back up The New Revolution (TNR) is not even upto 50% of Looza. What’s missing is Looza thrill and power we were accustomed to listening along with Robin. TNR had me wishing the duo to unite back for the sake of good music. After two years Looza is back With a new front-man and back-to-basics rock attitude. Robin wanted to do his own stuff, so did Looza.
After the break-up Sunit was still playing with Eternity while Riju was with Rusty Nails. But finally they have come front with a new front man; none other then Lochan Rizal, who is a musical genius, currently studying Masters in Ethnomusicology at Kathmandu University and learning eastern classical vocals and instruments. Yes Lochan Rizal who bagged four Awards at 9th Hits Fm Music Awards 2062. Finally both sides found the kind of band they wanted to work with and the name simply Looza.
Neo-Looza has been jamming together and experimenting their sound. Soon we can watch them in concerts. Soon we can have the missed thrill live performance by Looza. Hope they will soon be on the top of Nepali Rock Music once again as this time they got one of the greatest vocalist in Nepali music Industry and of course one of the best band. But hope this time they don’t break-up…
