Book – Women in Love
Author – D.H. Lawwrence
Category – Classic

“Women in Love” D.H Lawwrence’s master piece novel is stated by many critics as an “epic of vice”. It is the love story of two sisters, Gudrun and Ursuala, with complete diverse personality. Gudrun is beautiful, attractive and ambitious. She is a potential artist by progression. She falls in love with Gerald a business tycoon. Gerald tries to gain control over Gudrun but Gudrun is resentless and denies surrender. This act of Gerald causes the relationship to falter and evoke misunderstanding. On the other hand Ursuala an authordox woman, a teacher at a Grammar School at Beldover falls in love with Birkin. Ursuala is a nervous women lost in her infinite dreams. Birkin is a misanthrope he hates the human kind and beliefs that the creation would be better without humanbeings. Birkin is not steadfast in his perception and he is confused. His whole philosophy is undermined and seems irrational and capricious. D.H Lawrence, in this novel has tried to reveal the obscured side of human psyche and illumine the hidden sexual depravity. The thing that I liked in this novel is its effort to unveil the human psyche and its effort to expose the obscured facts of human sexual desires. The characterization is appreciable and the plotting of the roles are remarkable and well maneuvered. A must read for those with keen interest in English literature, but for others it might prove to be tiresome as I doubt they will be able to comprehend it as the standard of language is very high and the fathom of philosophy very deep.
