Youths in politics - Bibek Karki

I believe there should not be any more politics at the colleges in Nepal. Students should give priorities more to their studies rather than politics. By “college politics,” I mean students from remote as well as urban areas of the country who come to a city like Kathmandu. They carry their higher education dreams and soon after, they get involved with politics and become victims of the political leaders. When something goes wrong the political leaders use these students for their own
welfare and damage the structure of the society by encouraging these students by protesting on the streets, throwing stones anywhere, disturbing the movements of the transportation, and the forceful closure of school, colleges. By “forceful closure,” I mean closing without willingness of the people or the halting of the state and its citizens, and when there is no transportation; people are not able to move from one place to another. In other words, students should get involved with politics after having completed their degree. I believe education can bring positive change to the nation because educated people have a greater vision of thinking. These people tend to think about issues in multidimensional views. They can understand the real problem and can balance the situation in peaceful manner. Also, there are several examples in world history, where many countries have developed after they gave priorities to education and to their citizens. The first step to eradicate chaos, violence, and deadly protests on the streets of Nepal is to discourage the political activities in colleges.
There should be a rule and unit to monitor the activities of the students in colleges. The next step or the process towards transforming these students is to implement the help of International organizations such as UNO, UNICEF, The UN, and the government of Nepal to take initiatives to involve students at community-based projects and bring the awareness campaigns to the student’s protests and violence.
Another step for this change is to elect the politicians, who are educated and who have good characters and support the innovative ideas of the youth.
One day, when I was on the way to my office, I saw hundreds of students protesting on the street, burning tires and throwing stones towards police and vice versa. First, I stepped back because it would not have been a good idea to show any brave act in a situation like that. Next, I saw a father, carrying his small daughter, who was in her school dress and was trying to cross the street. Next, the police threw tear gas, which went near the father but somehow they escaped. I was very frustrated, when I observed that scene. Then, I realized how badly the future of a child, a father, worker, citizens, student protesters, the economy, and the nation was damaged. There should be a better understanding in the brains, responsibilities on the shoulders, and honesty in the hearts and minds of every Nepali citizen. For these reasons, I believe there should not be any more politics in colleges in Nepal.

Enlightment of the Buddha- The Awakened one!! - Bibek Karki

Siddhartha Gautam, who later became Buddha after his enlightenment is the founder of Buddhism. Buddha was born during 566 BC in Lumbini, Kapilvastu, Nepal on a full moon day. He was born soon after his mother took a royal bath on the pond .His mother Mayadevi gave him birth under the Piple bot or the Boudhi tree his father Suddhodana, asked one of the priests to make Bhavisyavadi or Prediction of his son’s future and the priest said that his son would become a monk one day. King Suddhodana started worrying about this, as he wanted Siddhartha to be a great King. Therefore, Siddhartha was always held inside the palace and veiled from the outside world.
Buddhism was started in North east of India and soon spread to different part of the south east Asia, Burma, China, Korea, Japan and beyond. During 269~232 BC Indian Emperor or the great worrier king Ashoka fights hundreds of battles. One day, he observes the suffering of the people, their wounds after the battle and many deaths. Soon he give up the empire and follow the path of Buddhism and starts transforming himself and spreading the religion by building temples, pillars and monastery such as Ashok pillar of Nepal.
Buddha determines the four noble truth after he was liberated and one of the major cause for suffering is desire for self. Buddha belived there is no such self in the world and we all are stardust and it is Karma(Right Action) that determines life in the cycle of transmigration (it is a process where birth-death continues for several cycles) or Nirvana (a state of Enlightened). Once librated, there will be a perfect peaceful mind, and the Nobel vibration within self.
In order to start journey towards liberation or nirvana one must pass through the different phases following the basic five percepts and later start following the discipline of eightfold path as advised by the Buddha. For basic understanding of teaching of Buddha or Dharma one can join a course where teaching of dharma is run by the gurus or monks for a specific period of time and remain in Sanghas (circle of students) and follow the five percepts and they are.
• Abstain from Killing.
• Abstain from stealing.
• Abstain from telling lies.
• Abstain from all sexual activities.
• Abstain from taking intoxication.
When these percepts are strictly followed for a specific period then one will have better understanding of Teaching of Buddha. Monks, Ani’s (female monks) who lives at gompas and monasteries give up their possession, family and follows the discipline of eightfold path right understanding, thought, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness and concentration suggested by the Buddha.
In Buddhism, ordinary Buddhist has greater respect towards these monks, ani’s and they basically provide them donation in terms of food and money. Providing donation for the welfare of dharma (religion) is one of the foundations in Buddhism. Many Dharma school, monastery are run by the donations.
There are two major branches in Buddhism they are Mahayana, which is also the oldest and major branch of Buddhism believes Sanghas and Monastery and monks are the major bodhi sattas who have preserved the exact teaching of Buddha since it was started 2500 yrs ago. Over many years this branch of religion has spread throughout many parts of the world such as Myanmar, Burma, China, Japan, Thailand and Nepal where in some community such as newars, believes Buddha as a Shakyamuni god, and they believe Buddha as a god who came to this earth to make people liberated from suffering. Whereas in Hinayana Buddhism, people consider Buddha as an ordinary person who was good with his meditation skills.
However, there are some critics about the Buddhism but this religion has started to flourish everyday because of its practical approach to any problem. It also teaches the art of living by eradicating our miserable and wandering mind towards balanced and peaceful mind. A good mediator can see the things exactly, as they are because they have the knowledge of the self. And also they transform themselves becoming determined in whatsoever task they undertakes and follows the step by step process with balanced mind. There is one saying, in Buddhism,
“Good to have mastery of speech, good to have physical mastery
but the one who is master of his mind, is the warrior of the real courage”

The new generation kids weird fashion sense - Rijwi Kafle

The new generation kids are much more advanced, fashionable and Smart in comparison to their parents, at their age. In sharp contrast to their mother's greased hair, girls now have shiny hair in cut to suite their personality. As for their skin, it is clean and flawless due to the use of protective sunscreens and timely treatment in case of some problem arises. They are conscious to protect themselves from harmful ultraviolet rays. They also understand that enhancing someone’s beauty doesn’t mean Just to get facially made up. Today's youth are much aware to clean Their fingers, nails, arms, necks knees, elbows and toes too. These Parts are mentioned and emphasized here because in the process of beautification, these used to be neglected in their mother’s days.
Youngsters of these days get shiny, good set of teeth due to appropriate dental treatments. This was an alien concept to their parents. Their closet consists of clothes in various color, textile and design. In most cases, their dresses are quite comfortable, nicely fitting and perfectly suited to their busy lifestyles. A complete contrast to that of a generation ago who had at most a couple of spare clothes. The untidy and lousy look of a generation ago has vanished to be replaced by smart confident kids.
All this does not mean their fashion sense is faultless either. At least I can't agree to it whole heartedly. Those too loose for comfort trousers, hanging below their waist are an eye shore. Why they prefer it to creased pant and shirt is beyond me, for I believe they would look a lot smarter in it than those muddy, large sandals they seem to prefer to shiny, polished leather shoes or clean fitting snickers!
Then there are some who believe it's cool to wear haphazard long hair in aid of some ridiculous gel. No amount of explaining can convince them that they would they look better in neatly combed hair. They would definitely look smatter in well fitting trousers instead they prefer to look ridiculous in looses jeans, crumpled at bottom designed to cleans the floor.
And then there are girls in jeans and vests with large black tika on her forehead and “kajol”in her naturally beautiful black eyes? My advices leave those to your moms.
Girls too wear those low waist trousers and skirts. They are somewhat unaware or carefree about their body part and undergarments being revealed during their movements. I could not understand are they willingly revealing it at any time, any circumstances, any places and to anybody? Aren’t they aware of people around them who are bothered by unwanted and unexpected scene? Some of those girls have slim, spotless skin and nice body structure which may cool someone’s eyesight. But some of them have out of shape bulging belly. Yes, it may be matter of pride to expose beauty but isn’t it giving negative
result in opposite case? If so, isn’t it better to hide it in latter case? When I see them, I remember elder women in saris; repelling others eyesight by exposed big, protruding belly with stretched marks.
Easily said "beauty lies in beholder’s eyes" as if you’ll be found beautiful in whatever style you stick too. But, the true fact is, beauty is obtained by keeping oneself clean, proper maintenance, loveliness and charm to attract beholder’s eyes.
Proper definition of beauty is to be healthy and clean physically and mentally as well. Moreover, one should have good moral character, broad knowledge, politeness and down to earth behavior and of course, pleasant smile.
The new generation kids will definitely look better if they pay attention to these inner qualities as well.
